urbanwalks.ankara, a city walks initiative co-led by Cem Dedekargınoğlu, instructor from IAED, was considered worthy for the Contribution to Architecture Award by Turkish Association of Architects in Private Practice (TürkSMD), in scope of the 17th Architecture Awards. The award is presented with a ceremony that took place in Presidential Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall (CSO Ada Ankara) on 5 October.
urbanwalks.ankara is an independent initiative led by an architectural historian, Cem Dedekargınoğlu and art historian, Cemre Gökpınar. Its aim is not merely to discuss and reflect upon the city’s multi-layered history while walking with participants, but also to activate collective memory and foster critical urban citizenship and public participation. Since 2020, approximately 200 walks have been conducted across various parts of Ankara, covering diverse areas such as public buildings from the early Republican era, residential settlements dating to different periods of the 20th century, public parks, urban amenities, and the city’s physical and cognitive values.
